Local man wanted in theft, attack of his ex-girlfriend
Robert Lee Whitting

A man stalked his ex-girlfriend before hiding under her bed Monday and then attacking her, said Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson. He also stole her cell phone and car.
Robert Lee Whitting, 44, West Forest Circle, reportedly stalked his former girlfriend on numerous occasions before Monday’s attack, according to Statesboro Police incident reports. Some stalking incidents took place within the city limits, and included texts and phone calls threatening her and family members with bodily harm, reports stated.
Anderson said Whitting, who was released on parole in October after having served three years on a terroristic threats conviction,  hid under the victim’s bed and lay in wait for her to return home Monday to her Eagle Trace Villas residence.
He then “crawled out from under the bed and physically assaulted her,” causing injuries that required medical attention at a hospital, he said.
“The victim stated during interviews with patrol deputies that she had just ended a relationship with Whitting,” he said. She said he also “grabbed (her) cell phone so she could not call 911.”
Whitting then stole the victim’s keys and fled in her white 2001 Buick Park Avenue. He is wanted by sheriff’s investigators on charges of burglary, motor vehicle theft, battery and obstruction of emergency phone calls.
Anderson said Whitting may still be in possession of the victim’s car. Anyone with information on the car or Whitting’s whereabouts is asked to contact Inv. Jason Long at (912) 764-1747, or submit an anonymous tip to
