Editor:
The corruption prevalent in Register city government and city police department reminds us that corruption has come full circle in Bulloch County.
If we look back about 15 years or so ago we had very similar situations in Statesboro when the chief of police was fired along with the fire chief and now we’ve gone back to chiefs. Why? We wanted to rid ourselves of specific individuals. We are once again back to square one!
The mere fact that the Kile’s are specifically “targeting” small cities such as Rocky Ford and Register to set up speed traps and provide family income to specific members of their own families screams “corruption” with a capital “C.” I suggest to you that Register Mayor John Williams and others are very familiar with such family practices of hiring relatives on taxpayer’s backs.
It’s a gimmick! It should be a crime.
We should insist the State Legislature pass laws to stop such corrupt practices. Anytime you hire “ticket writers” to pay for corrupt government you’re going to see such incidents as we’re experiencing now in Register. Portal, Brooklet, Register, Rocky Ford … the list goes on and on. When you have family and close friends colluding to create government paid jobs for family members what do you expect to see happen with city finances?
But I think it is fair that any city that hires “ticket writers” as a primary means to earn money to pay for city government – those small towns deserve such results! These very same cities can use county Sheriff cars and Georgia Highway Patrol to control traffic issues.
If the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office cannot afford to patrol these small townships, then we need to take a look-see as to “why” they can’t perform accordingly. Our taxes reflect otherwise. Tag readers, radar guns, slick police cars and families that create such ‘businesses’ to earn a percentage of their “take” and donate the balance to a corrupt city government should be tarred and feathered and run out of these small towns on a rail!
The FBI, the GBI and our county investigators should be on top of these corrupt practices.
Where is Jan Tankersley and our other local state representatives? What legislation have they proposed to prevent such corruption?
What’s happened in these small towns should raise a red flag to all of us. It is time we look at our elected officials and see exactly what they are doing to prevent such antics.
We must hold our elected officials accountable. We as citizens owe it to ourselves to draw a line in the sand against such practices being inflicted upon the public-at-large.
Bar these ticket writers from government jobs! Decertify such individuals permanently. They are not legitimate police!
They are just making money for themselves and paying city government officials a part of their “take” to allow them to operate as such in these small towns.
We as a community don’t need this type of reputation. Shams and scams such as this are perpetrated on our young college students every day of the week.
Stop it now! Nip it in the bud now!
It is time we demand honesty and ethics in government. Where are our honest politicians? Perhaps this is an oxymoron?
Officials not paying their taxes, officials using government offices to pass legislation to make money on bars and other such personal and private businesses … enough! I say enough!
