(Note: Changes have been made in the scheduled locations and availability of hot meals.)
People in Bulloch County in need of food due to Hurricane Matthew may visit one of the following food drop locations today to accept donations.
Since the hurricane caused an emergency situation, normal requirements for qualification for food bank donations are waived. All a person needs is a name, address and phone number, said DeWayne Grice, an organizer of the effort.
Food pickups begin at 11 a.m. at the following spots:
Statesboro — First United Methodist Church at 101 South Main Street.
Brooklet — First United Methodist Church on Dixie Street.
Portal — Portal City Hall.
Stilson — Stilson Fire Department.
Ready-to-eat meals will be served at the following locations:
Statesboro FUMC Soup Kitchen.
Stilson Fire Department.
Portal City Hall.
Brooklet FUMC Soup Kitchen.
County residents may pick up food at any location but are asked to only visit ONE pickup site.
Rebecca’s Café, next to the Statesboro Food Bank at the old Julia P. Bryant Elementary School, will NOT be open nor serving food Saturday. The Food Bank will also not be open Saturday but will be involved in the food distributions elsewhere, said Food Bank Director Joe Bill Brannon.
Cash donations for food supplies may be made at any Farmers and Merchants Bank branch or at Sea Island banks. Checks will be accepted at Sea Island Bank and should be made out to United Way of Southeast Georgia.
