Two area bank robberies that happened Monday have FBI agents, as well as Jenkins and Effingham county law enforcement officers, seeking information on a suspect in each.
Around 10:30 a.m., an unidentified black man wearing a light-colored, narrow-brimmed hat robbed Queensborough National Bank and Trust on East Winthrop Avenue in Millen.
Around 2 p.m., a black man wearing a straw hat and orange vest robbed First Effingham Bank on Georgia Highway 21 in Rincon, according to reports. He stood about 5 feet 7 inches and wore blue work jeans.
There is no evidence that the two robberies are connected, said FBI Special Agent Stephen Emmett, a spokesman with FBI’s Atlanta office.
There were no reported injuries in either robbery, he said.
The Statesboro FBI office is investigating the Millen robbery while the Savannah FBI office is handling the Rincon robbery.
Investigators did not reveal the amounts of cash taken from either bank. In the Rincon robbery, it was reported the suspect brandished a silver handgun.
