A man moving boxes at a Georgia Southern University residence hall suffered a heart attack and died Monday after he fell off a ramp.
Bulloch Central 911 received a call Monday afternoon regarding a man who had fallen, struck his head and was not breathing, according to information dispatched by radio.
Although Lawrence Wood, 45, struck his head on some concrete after he fell from a ramp on a U-Haul truck, the cause of his death was a heart attack, said GSU Police Chief Ken Brown.
The heart attack was likely the cause of his fall, he said.
The accident occurred around 4 p.m., said GSU Marketing and Communications Director Stephen P. Ward.
Wood was employed by Will Staff Temporary Employment Agency, and was working at Hendricks Hall moving boxes when he apparently suffered a heart attack caused by coronary atherosclerosis, and fell from the ramp, striking his head, he said.
Bulloch County EMS transported  Wood to East Georgia Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, he said.
Bulloch County Coroner Jake Futch arrived at the hospital and ordered an autopsy to be performed  by the Georgia State Crime Lab to determine the cause of death. The incident was investigated by Futch and officers from the Georgia Southern University Police Department.
