A man has died and a person is in custody pending an investigation, the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Monday night.
At 4:31 p.m. Monday, patrol deputies responded to a home in the 300 block of Longwood Drive in Statesboro to assist Bulloch County EMS on an injured-person call, Sheriff Lynn Anderson said.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered a white male who was severely injured inside the home. EMS transported the victim to East Georgia Regional Medical Center, where he died as a result of his injuries, Anderson said.
Upon interviewing individuals at the scene, officers determined that the facts of the death differed from the facts provided to Bulloch County 911 when the initial call was dispatched, the sheriff said.
Investigators conducted follow-up interviews with the occupants of the home and processed the home after obtaining a search warrant.
As of Monday night, one individual is in custody, Anderson said.
Formal charges and identification of the deceased are pending the results of an autopsy, which is scheduled for Wednesday at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Coastal Regional Crime Lab.
Anderson said no further information will be released until after the scheduled autopsy.
