Statesboro police arrested a Cobbtown teen on charges of child molestation after an investigation into an incident in Statesboro in December.

Wyee Jumon Williams, 17, of Highway 152 in Cobbtown, is charged with felony statutory rape and child molestation, according to police reports.

Williams was arrested Friday by Statesboro police Detective Ben Purvis, according to reports.

Statesboro police Sgt. Jake Saxon said that Williams is not related to the 12-year-old female victim, and the alleged improper contact and molestation occurred at an East Main Street location in December.

Statutory rape is sexual conduct with someone below the age of consent, regardless of whether the act is consensual. According to www.justia.com, Georgia law designates the crime a felony if the victim is younger than 14.

Williams was taken to the Bulloch County Jail, where he awaits a bond and other court hearings.
