A man fleeing from drug agents Friday almost struck a child getting off a school bus and then tried ramming a Bulloch county Sheriff’s deputy patrol car.
Bulloch County Drug Suppression Team Commander Capt. Rick Rountree said Frank Mumford III, 29, Blue Jay Lane, fled after an undercover drug agent bought cocaine from him at a location near Clito. After the controlled buy, agents tried arresting Mumford, who fled the scene in his car.
Mumford drove recklessly for some distance, ignoring stop signs and traffic laws, and failed to stop when he approached a stopped school bus. Rountree said Mumford almost struck at least one child in is wild attempts to escape, and then headed straight toward a deputy’s patrol car, forcing the deputy off the roadway at the last minute.
However, responding deputies and BCDST agents surrounded Mumford near Thomas Village in Clito, forcing him to a stop, he said.
Boxed in by patrol cars and other law enforcement vehicles, Mumford realized he was captured and then gave himself up without incident, he said.
The investigation that resulted in the controlled purchase of cocaine and subsequent chase was headed up by BCDST Agent Marcus Nesmith. Mumford has had “several narcotics violations in the past” and was on probation, Rountree said.
Mumford was charged with sale of cocaine, marijuana possession, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, failure to stop for a school bus while loading or unloading, fleeing/attempt to elude police, bench warrant outstanding, speeding, reckless driving, DUI (drugs), failure to stop at a stop sign and driving with a suspended license.
He was taken to the Bulloch County Jail, where he remains without bond.
A passenger, a male named Allison Daniels, 26, of North Pearl Street, Albany, NY, was also arrested, charged with sale of cocaine. He was taken to the Bulloch County Jail and assigned a $2,000 bond, according to jail records.
