Most girls dream about their wedding days. However, when it comes to actually planning their weddings, it’s often far more stressful and expensive than they imagined.
Deciding on floral arrangements, the cake, dresses, decorations, venues and caterers all can weigh heavily on a bride’s shoulders — not to mention figuring out how to pay for it all.
That’s where the Downtown Statesboro Development Authority’s annual Wedding Walk can help. The event showcases the best the area has to offer, from wedding gowns and flowers to catering and venues. It offers a starting point for any bride in the area who is ready to start planning the big day.
“Statesboro has so much to offer to new brides and couples,” said event coordinator Shannon Edwards. “The DSDA wants to help businesses around Statesboro and Bulloch County showcase what they have to offer to upcoming brides and couples.”
More than 40 vendors will participate in Friday’s event, as part of the monthly F1rst Friday celebration.
“The bride-to-be will have a chance to meet local vendors that will help her create her dream wedding,” Edwards said. “We will have vendors that will cover everything a bride will need, from her stationery, flowers, photographer, venue, entertainment and her dress — and of course, everything in between.”
The event begins with a Bridal Expo at the Quality Inn & Suites at 5 p.m. that evening, where local area businesses will set up booths to provide information and answer any questions about the services they offer.
At 6:30 p.m., the event moves to the Averitt Center for the Arts in downtown Statesboro. During the Gallery Social cocktail hour, local caterers offer refreshments and samples of their food to attendees.
Then comes the main event. The Fashion Show begins at 8 p.m. inside the Emma Kelly Theater, where local dress and tux shops and florists will team up to show what’s hot this wedding season.
Throughout the evening, door prizes such as salon gift cards, makeup and gift baskets will be given away, and one lucky bride-to-be will take home the $1,000 grand prize!
Tickets to the 2012 Wedding Walk are $7 and can be purchased in advance at the Averitt Center box office or on the day of the event at the Quality Inn.
