The Third Annual Benning to Gordon Relay is scheduled for this week.

Six runners from Millen, and one from Sylvania, will run across the state, from Fort Benning to raise funds for the Warrior Transition Battalion and the Fisher House at Fort Gordon.

The relay has raised over $8,000 the past two years. We will run from just east of Fort Benning, near Columbus, to Fort Gordon, in Augusta, relay style. The total distance is approximately 270 miles.

The relay will kick off Thursday, and the runners will spend Thursday night in Cochran, Friday night in Dublin and Saturday night in Millen before arriving at Fort Gordon by mid-afternoon Sunday.

On Saturday, the relay will make its way through Bulloch County. Ray Miller, one of the runners, said the team plans to be in Portal around 1 p.m. on its way to Millen.

Their goal is to raise funds for wounded men and women at Fort Gordon as well as raising awareness about the injuries military personnel suffer while protecting the freedoms that we all enjoy.

The runners invite members of veterans' organizations and running clubs to join them for few miles to help with publicity and perhaps make a donation to the relay.

They have set up an account for donations. The information is: Benning to Gordon Relay, Queensborough Bank of Millen, P.O. Box 780, Millen, GA 30442.
