A man who admitted trying to buy drugs illegally early Wednesday told police the alleged dealers robbed him at gunpoint.
Statesboro police Capt. James Winskey said the victim “met with two subjects at the corner of GATA Drive and Lanier Road” to buy an undisclosed amount of “a controlled substance.”
The two alleged dealers walked the victim a short distance down GATA Drive, near Cambridge Apartments, before “pulling a gun and robbing him of cash, his cellphone and vape device,” he said.
While the incident occurred off campus, Georgia Southern University officials issued an “Eagle Alert” warning to students and faculty to make them aware of an incident being investigated but did not state that it was a reported armed robbery or give further details.
Winskey said there were no reported injuries and that the case is being actively investigated.
