Dr. and Mrs. Emory P. Smith III of Statesboro announce the engagement of their daughter, Rachel Marie Smith of Statesboro, to Sean Ryan Ussery, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Ussery of Macon.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dudley G. McAlum of Savannah and Mrs. Lothair Smith of Claxton and the late Dr. Emory P. Smith Jr. Rachel is a 2008 graduate of Bulloch Academy. She then earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Georgia College and State University in May of 2012. She was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. Rachel is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Nursing Practice with a family nurse practitioner concentration at Augusta University (formerly the Medical College of Georgia).

The groom-elect is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas LeMaster of Macon and Mrs. Elena Ussery of McRae and the late Mr. Daris Ussery. Ryan is a 2008 graduate of Mount de Sales Academy in Macon. He then earned his Bachelor of Science in nursing from Georgia College and State University in 2012. He is currently pursuing his master's in nursing anesthesia at Augusta University (formerly the Medical College of Georgia).

The couple has planned to wed on May 14, 2016, in Asheville, North Carolina.
