Julia Clarke Riggs and Anthony Carmelo "Tony" Chatfield

Mr. and Mrs. James S. Riggs of Statesboro are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Julia Clarke Riggs of Porterdale, Georgia, to Anthony Carmelo "Tony" Chatfield of Covington, Georgia. Tony is the son of Mrs. Ann Schembri Chatfield and the late Mr. Elvin Chatfield Jr. of Ringgold, Ga.

Julia is the granddaughter of the late Edmond and Jeneal Bland of Statesboro and the late Robert Barney and Cleo Riggs of Sylvania, Ga.

An honor graduate of Bulloch Academy, Julia graduated, summa cum laude, with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Mercer University. She graduated with a master's of arts in teaching from Georgia Southern University. Julia is employed by the Newton County Board of Education and is teaching science at Eastside High School in Covington.

Tony is the grandson of Mrs. Viola Schembri and the late Mr. Frank Schembri of Detroit, Michigan, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Chatfield Sr. of Des Moines, Iowa. A graduate of Harlingen High School South in Harlingen, Texas, Tony graduated with a bachelor of arts in math education from Dalton State College. He is employed by the Newton County Board of Education and is teaching math at Eastside High School in Covington.

The couple plans to marry on Feb. 18, 2017, in Porterdale.
