Mr. and Mrs. George Stubbs Joiner

            Dr. John and Mrs. Lorraine Hughes of Freeland, Mich., and Dr. G. Hewett and Mrs. Martha Joiner of Statesboro, Ga., announce the marriage of their children, Marianne Patricia Hughes and George Stubbs Joiner, both of New York City.
        The wedding took place on July 18, 2015, on the grounds of the Montague Inn in historic downtown Saginaw, Mich.
        The bride was attended by her two sisters, Jennifer Bellini of Fenton, Mich., and Caroline Hughes of Denver, Colo. Flower girl was Caroline Anne Bly of Stone Mountain, Ga., niece of the groom.
Daniel Davenport of New Orleans, La., formerly of Statesboro, served as Stubbs' best man, and Gina Joiner-Bly, sister of the groom, was groomswoman. Ushers were Lucy Bly, niece of the groom; Emma Bellini, niece of the bride; and Joe Hughes of Midland, Mich., brother of the bride.
        Jeff Liebmann of the Unitarian/Universalist Fellowship of Midland officiated.
        The bride and groom each read vows of their own composition instead of the traditional marriage ceremony.
        Guests were entertained before the ceremony with a selection of classical guitar music performed by Eric Merkle.
        A reception hosted by the bride's parents in the ballroom of the Montague Inn followed the ceremony. Later, the wedding party and guests enjoyed listening and dancing to a selection of the bridal couple's favorite recorded music that was managed by Charlye Ruth Bly, niece of the groom.
        The bride graduated in 1999 from Nouvel Catholic Central High School in Saginaw. She is a graduate of Michigan State University (2003) and also obtained a Master of Professional Studies in art therapy in 2008 from the Pratt Institute in New York. She works in private practice as a creative arts therapist and psychotherapist in Manhattan, N.Y.
        The groom graduated from Statesboro High School in 1994 and from Oberlin College in Ohio in 1998. He is employed as vice president of information technology at Williams Capital Group in Manhattan.
        The couple lives in Rego Park, N.Y.
