The Rev. Janet Roberts Culpepper of Belton, S.C., and Mr. Gerald M. Culpepper Jr. of Anderson, S.C., are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Anna Margaret Culpepper, to John Michael Washington, son of Dr. and Mrs. Sidney R. Washington III of Statesboro, Ga.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Roberts of Iva, S.C., and Mrs. Sandra Culpepper of Anderson. Anna is a 2010 graduate of Landrum High School in Landrum, S.C. She graduated from the College of Charleston, Charleston, S.C., in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in psychology. She is currently pursuing her master's degree in social work at the University of South Carolina and is employed at Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, S.C.

The groom-elect is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth E. Tallent of Millen, Ga., and the late Mr. Sidney R. Washington Jr. of Atlanta and the late Ms. Ruth Whelchel Washington of Athens, Ga. John is a 2010 graduate of Statesboro High School. He graduated from The Citadel Military College, Charleston, in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in business administration. He is currently employed as a general manager at the Spinx Company in Greenville.

The couple has planned to wed on May 21, 2016, in Charleston.
