The Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets tough pre-region schedule has them currently 1-2. The Jackets are coming off a 30-7 loss to Burke County in which head coach Jason Anthony feels the final score wasn’t as indictive as the level of play the Jackets showed.

“In the first half we really held our own, but the trouble is we ran out of gas in the second half and let things get away from us,” Anthony said. “We have to find a way to finish games. They are a good team but I think we competed pretty well against them.”

Individually Anthony felt quarterback J.K. Small continued to show progress and senior Aaden Peterson had over 100 yards receiving and a touchdown on 11 receptions Friday.

“We had quite a few players who were able to play well, but as a unit, we still need to improve,” Anthony said. “J.K. and Aaden were a couple who stood out but we have to do the little things better and continue to develop across the board.”

This week the Yellow Jackets hit the road once again as they make the quick drive north to Augusta to take on Westside. The Patriots come in with a record of 2-1 with a 49-0 win over Josey and a 48-41 nailbiter against Lincoln County. Their lone loss came last Friday in a 35-7 defeat to ARC.

“They are big up front and they move pretty well,” Anthony said. “They have a few receivers who are small but pretty shifty. They have a quarterback who is more of a pocket passer as he doesn’t like to run. We have to find a way of putting pressure on him and trying to contain those receivers. On defense their guys up front are pretty big and strong but their back-end guys aren’t as strong and we have to find a way of exploiting that.”

Southeast Bulloch and Westside, Augusta are scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start Friday evening in Augusta.
