The Southeast Bulloch football team is one step closer to the state playoffs thanks to a ruling by the Georgia High School Association.
Islands High School was found to have committed violations pertaining to the eligibility of three of its players. An appeal by the school was denied, enacting a fine for the school and a forfeiture of any game in which any of the players in question participated. That includes the Sept. 12 meeting between Islands and SEB in Brooklet. The Sharks topped the Yellow Jackets 43-20 on that night, but Southeast Bulloch will now be credited with the victory.
The Jackets’ adjusted record now stands at 3-2 overall and 2-1 in region play. Islands’ record will be dropped from 5-1 to 1-5 and the school has incurred a $3,750 fine for its violations.
With the added win, Southeast Bulloch now moves into position to qualify for the state playoffs. The Jackets currently hold the final of four slots for the state playoffs out of Region 3-AAA, but face a tough task as they host Jenkins Friday night at Fred Shaver Field in Brooklet.
