For the second straight year, weather delayed the season-opening football game between Statesboro and Southeast Bulloch for nearly two hours — and for the second straight year, Statesboro came away with a victory to open the 2026 season.
The Blue Devils ran through the raindrops for 456 yards and defeated the Yellow Jackets, 44-7, Friday night at Fred Shaver Field in Brooklet. Statesboro will try to go to 2-0 Friday night when Burke County, the sixth-ranked team in Class AAA, comes to Womack Field. Southeast Bulloch will try to even its record with a home game Friday against East Laurens.
