The Statesboro football team lost to Richmond Academy in Augusta Friday night, but at 4-3, the Blue Devils are right in the mix for a state playoff berth.
The Blue Devil offense has been productive, but the youthful defense has come through, as well. One of the underclassmen making a name for himself this year is defensive lineman Adrian Brewton.
“Adrian is just a guy with a high motor and gives all he has in practice and in games,” said coach Matt Dobson. “He creates a lot of chaos in the opposing team’s backfield. Whether he is drawing double teams or making the tackle himself, he’s been doing a great job.
“He’s just a sophomore so we expect him to continue to grow in the weight room, but despite his size he plays much bigger and is a great asset to our team.”
“I think my role on the team is just to be out there and give all I can and to do my job to the best of my ability,” Brewton said. “I feel like we have improved as a defense from last year and we are more on the same page.
“I think our secondary is improving and we have to try and help them by continuing to put pressure on the quarterback.”
