Southeast Bulloch blanks ECI
SEB

BROOKLET — Southeast Bulloch exploded for six first-half goals and cruised the rest of the way as the Yellow Jackets defeated Emanuel County Institute 6-0 Monday night at Fred Shaver Field.

Sophomore forward Drew Ware scored a pair of goals as SEB dominated possession throughout the match and surrendered just one shot on goal to the Bulldogs over the course of the game.

“I saw a lot of intensity out there tonight,” said SEB coach Kent Brannen. “Everyone was really into the game and we took advantage of some mistakes to get on the board.”

Ware kicked off the scoring in the seventh minute, driving home a centering pass from Juan Escamilla after Escamilla had outrun ECI defenders down the left sideline.

In the 10th minute, Doug Flott stole a pass 30 yards out and caught the Bulldogs running in the wrong direction. Flott burst through the middle and blasted a low shot in for a 2-0 lead.

Just two minutes later, the Jackets struck again. Sean Healy won a loose ball at midfield and found open space. Healy sidestepped a defender just outside the ECI box and easily slipped a left-footed shot into goal.

Each of SEB’s first five goals were scored by underclassmen — something that has been a trend in the first half of the season.

“I’m proud of our underclassmen,” said Brannen. “They have really stepped it up so far. I think it just goes to show what kind of team we have in store for the future.”

Rounding out the Jacket scoring, James Good found the net in the 37th minute, and a 38th minute corner kick from Tim Montgomery was deflected into goal by a Bulldog defender.

In the second half, SEB concentrated on keeping possession and making sure that ECI would never threaten, easily running off the final 40 minutes of play.

“The defense executed well,” said Brannen. “We ran our formations very well all night and got good clearances every time (ECI) brought the ball down the field.”

The Jackets try to keep the momentum going today as they travel to Dodge County.

Lady Jackets 10, Lady Bulldogs 0

After a rough loss last week, the Southeast Bulloch girls came back with a vengeance.

Seven different Lady Yellow Jackets scored as SEB coasted to a 10-0 victory over ECI Monday evening.

“This was definitely a confidence booster for us,” said SEB coach Aimee Civalier. “We were able to work on some things offensively and get a lot of girls some playing time.”

It didn’t take long for the Jackets to find the scoreboard as Cindy Davis corralled a loose ball inside of the Lady Bulldogs’ box and found the back of the net just two minutes into the game.

Merekate Schlierf — who racked up three assists on the game — dribbled up the right sideline and nailed a shot from a tough angle for a 2-0 lead in the 10th minute.

A Cassie Ormsby goal in the 21st minute started an offensive onslaught that featured six SEB goals in a span of just 17 minutes.

Netanya Suarez had a pair of highlight goals for the Jackets during the run. In the 29th minute, a throw in flew over the ECI defense and Suarez ran it down for an easy score. Four minutes later, Suarez outran a Bulldog defender, slipping a shot through the arms of the goalkeeper.

Crystal Dowell made it 8-0 just before the half when she stepped in front of a goal kick and had no one but the goalie to beat.

Dowell completed her hat trick and brought the game to a premature end in the 51st minute, catching a Schlierf cross midair and sending it home to make it 10-0 and put the mercy rule into effect.

SEB is in action again this afternoon, traveling to Sylvania for a 5 p.m. game against Screven County.
