CLAXTON — The Claxton Tigers (12-7, 2-4 Region 3A-A) had to stop three shot attampts in the final seconds, including a pair of blocks by Monterius Valentine, and they held on to beat Savannah Christian, 47-45, Tuesday at home.
Cornelius Taylor finished with 13 points, and Valentine added 11 in the win.
Lady Tigers top Savannah Christian
CLAXTON — The Claxton Lady Tigers took down Savannah Christian, 51-38, on Tuesday at home.
The Tigers (14-5, 5-1 Region 3A-A) were led in scoring by Jazmine Price (13 points) and Devonna Brewton (10).
Mariah Morgan did a little bit of everything, netting nine points, pulling down eight rebounds and grabbing five steals.
Claxton plays host to Savannah Christian Friday in a doubleheader beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
John Milledge falls to Lady Gators
MILLEDGEVILLE — The Bulloch Academy Lady Gators remained unbeaten in Region 4-IAAA play on Tuesday with a 48-42 win on thew road at John Milledge Academy.
Chelsea Oglesby led the Gators (18-3, 4-0) with 17 points. Ashly Burke added 12.
Bulloch hosts Westminster on Friday at 6 p.m.
GSU's Reed nets SoCon honors
Georgia Southern senior point guard C.J. Reed has been named SoCon Player of the Week by CollegeSportsMadness.com in its weekly honor roll. The Eagles went 2-1 in a stretch that saw Reed score a combined 46 points and tally 13 assists as the Eagles beat Davidson and Charleston.
SBCPRD youth basketball scores
The Statesboro-Bulloch County Parks and Recreation Department saw a lot of action in last week's youth games.
The Junior Boys League just held its first game with the 76ers winning out over the Knicks by a score of 37-36.
In the Midget Boys league, the Heat beat the Thunder 37-25 and the Warriors defeated the Bulls 38-33.
In the Midget Girls league, Spurs beat the Pacers 14-12, and the 76ers beat the Rockets 15-12.
In the Minor Boys League, the Lakers beat the Rockets 29-12, the Nets beat the Warriors 35-17 and the Knicks defeated the Pacers 32-19. The Thunder defeated the 76ers 20-12, the Spurs beat the Bulls 20-16 and the Magic beat the Heat 18-4.
