Local Roundup --Metter splits with Tattnall
METTER

 

            The Metter Lady Tigers (4-0) remained undefeated on the season with a win over Tattnall County.

            Maty Bennett won her singles match 8-2, and both doubles pairs – Faith Coleman and Beka Lee (8-6 win) and Ansley Bird and Abbey Lanier (8-4) – secured the win.

            Rachel Williams and Mary Grace Smith won in exhibition play.

            For the boys, Curtis Intravia and Raxhit Patel were winners in doubles action.

 

Ospreys drop GSU

Georgia Southern dropped a heartbreaker in extra innings of Game 1 of a doubleheader against North Florida, 9-6, and fell in Game 2, 7-0. 

The Eagles resume Southern Conference action this weekend Saturday and Sunday, March 27-28 at Appalachian State. The series begins with a doulbleheader scheduled for at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.  The Eagles will wrap up the three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m.

 

WJMS golf finishes strong

                William James Middle School finished first (girls) and second (boys) in a tournament against J.R. Trippe, Langston Chapel and Vidalia Tuesday.

                Low medalist for the girls was WJMS’s Sarah Jane Bowers, who shot a tournament-low 41.

                T.J. Costlow was the low scorer for the boys, shooting a 45.         

 

Freakley comes home

                To some the sweet calling of Georgia Southern to return home could never be ignored. Ben Freakley knows all about the familiar calling as he returns to his alma mater to assist head coach Kevin Kennedy and the Georgia Southern men’s soccer program.

 

Yellow Jackets fall to Calvary Day

BROOKLET -- Calvary Day defeated Southeast Bulloch 4-3 Wednesday.

Calvary jumped out to a 4-0 lead the Yellow Jackets’ rally fell just short.

Goals by Tim Montgomery and Doug Flott made the score 4-2 at the half.

Justin Hodnicki brought the score to 4-2 with a penalty kick at the 22 minute mark.

SEB (4-5) thought it tied the game with 22 minutes to play, but the goal was waved off because of an off-sides call.

 

Lady Gators top Memorial Day

SAVANNAH  -- The Bulloch High School Lady Gators (2-2-1) shutout Memorial Day 10-0 Thursday.

Katelin Ellis, Ansley Lomax, Kalie Hinton, and Emily Morgon each scored one goal.  Kaley Sheppard scored 2 goals. Haley Burke scored 2 goals and had 1 assist. Heaven Hinton scored 2 goals and 2 assists, and Ashley Able had 1 assist.

Gators best Curtis Baptist

AUGUSTA -- The Bulloch Academy Lady Gators (7-0) defeated Curtis Baptist 5-0 Thursday.

Megan Barber won her singles match with 6-1, 6-1.  Ally Cheshire won  6-1, 6-0 and Ann Mallard won with 6-0, 6-0.

The pairs of Kate Anna Akins/Mary Catherine Stigener and Morgan Anderson and McKenzie Webb each won with 6-0, 6-0.

The Gators (4-1) also defeated Curtis Baptist Thursday 4-1.

Brandon Walker won his match 6-3, 6-3 and John Howell won 6-0, 6-0.

There were no doubles matches for the boys.

BA will not play next week because of spring break but will return April 5 when they play Pinewood at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro.

 

Screven split to Effingham County

SPRINGFIELD  -- Screven’s Lady Gamecocks won 5-0 while the Gamecocks lost 3-2 Thursday when the teams played Effingham County.

Missy Zeagler  won her match 6-3, 6-0. Evan Sheppard won with 6-1, 6-0 and Katheryn Wells won with 6-2, 6-0.

Lauren Bazemore and Lauren Thomas won their doubles match 6-2. 6-2, 6-0 while Kelsey Forehand and Sydnee Weaver won their match 6-0, 6-4.

Screven will play Barion County in the first round of the Golden Iles tournament tomorrow and Saturday.

 

SEB topped by Calvary

BROOKLET -- Southeast Bulloch Lady Yellow Jackets fell to Calvary Baptist Thursday 4-0.

Ashley Cliffton had 14 saves.

The team will travel to Savannah to play Savannah Country Day at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
