Three weeks ago, Southeast Bulloch was stunned as longtime rival Screven County came to town and took away a 1-0 victory.
The loss marked the Lady Yellow Jackets’ first setback in Region 3-AA play, but they got right back on track and — facing a rematch last week with the sub-region title on the line — sophomore Leah McCarthy made sure that history wouldn’t repeat itself.
McCarthy got things started for SEB with an RBI single to put the Jackets ahead in the first inning, then added three more hits, another RBI and crossed the plate three times as SEB notched a 6-0 victory.
“We didn’t take (the loss) too personally,” said McCarthy. “We just knew that we had to do better the next time.”
McCarthy certainly took her own words to heart, breaking out for a huge game when her team needed it most.
“That was definitely one of my best games,” said McCarthy. “I was happy to do so well and help the team. Everyone played much better, and hopefully we can keep it going.”
With a state playoff spot already clinched, McCarthy and the Jackets now wait their next opponent in the region playoffs this weekend.
