Its one thing for a coach to have a star player, but quite another for that star to be the hardest worker on the team. Luckily for Statesboro coach Jeff Seier, junior combo guard Monnette Bennett is just such a player. She brings versatility. The No. 1 thing is leadership, said Seier. Shes the best player and the best cheerleader on the court, and the hardest worker. Thats what you really want out of your best player someone to lead the troops. Thats probably her best asset. The 5-foot-10 Bennett is also a lock-down defender, according to her coach. When asked, she said her strongest trait was heart. I hate losing and I like trying to be the best player on the court, said Bennett. If anybody says theyre going to do better than me Ive just got to prove them wrong. That combination of skills and attitude earned her a scholarship offer from the University of South Carolina, where she committed this summer. She really is the ideal teammate and just a coachs dream, said Seier.
