Local Roundup: GSU baseball to host scrimmages

    In preparation for the upcoming 2013 baseball season, the Georgia Southern Eagles will host two intrasquad scrimmages at J.I. Clements Stadium this weekend.
    Georgia Southern will take the field today and Sunday at 4:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively. Both scrimmages are open to the public and will provide fans an early season preview of this year's team.
    Today's practice kicks off a stretch of 22 days before the Eagles' first pitch against Georgia at Clements Stadium on Feb. 15.                 Season tickets for GSU's 31 home games are still on sale, and tickets are also available for the annual Evening with the All-Stars banquet, featuring  on Jan. 31.
    Evening With the All-Stars features Ned Yost, current manager of the Kansas City Royals and former bullpen coach of the Atlanta Braves.

CSA to hold tryouts for baseball, softball
    The Clubhouse Sports Academy, which opened recently in Statesboro, will hold tryouts for baseball and softball teams for boys and girls ages 8 to 14 on Saturday. Travel teams will compete in tournaments sponsored by USSSA, Peach State Diamond Sports and CAMsports.
    For ages 8 to 10, registration begins at The Clubhouse at noon with tryouts from 1 to 3 p.m. For ages 11 to 14, registration is at 2 p.m., with tryouts from 3 to 5 p.m.
    There is no charge for tryouts and all tryouts will be held at the Clubhouse practice facility.
