SEB looks for another win in region play

The Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets rebounded nicely last week after back-to-back region losses with an impressive 33-7 road win at Windsor Forest.

The Yellow Jackets improved to 3-4 and head coach Jason Anthony has been impressed with the team’s ability to come back after disappointing losses and keep plugging along.

“One thing about this team is they don’t quit,” Anthony said. “We really needed that momentum swing back in our direction. You see them this week they are practicing even harder and lifting harder with that extra pep in their step with a win like that.”

Anthony believes that what has separated the Jackets has been their physicality.

“They always play hard, but the intensity they played with Friday was what we were lacking the last two weeks for a full game,” Anthony said. “Windsor Forest’s coach came up to me after the game and commented on how physical our team was. The offensive line did a great job blocking and our run game showed a lot of improvement. Our defense scored a touchdown and really put pressure on them all night long coming up with a few turnovers.”

This week SEB will be looking to get back-to-back wins for the first time this year as they host 4-3 Liberty County. The Panthers are undefeated in region play at 3-0 and Anthony feels this is the one team in the region that his team really gets up for.

“No offense to anyone else that we’ve played but I think Liberty is our real rival in this region,” Anthony said. “We have probably played them the most and it always seems like the game comes down to the final seconds. I feel like the team that wants it more will win this game.”

The Panthers are led by senior running back Noel Best who averages over 100 yards per contest and has nine touchdowns. Junior quarterback Jaeir Roberts has six touchdown passes and has thrown for nearly 600 yards.

“The one thing we are going to have to do is stop the run. “Anthony said. “They have some size and strength up front and they run the ball well. Best is a good running back and they can pass when they need to. We have to try and keep everything in front of us and on offense we have to be able to block and let our running backs hit the creases and get the ball to our receivers in space.”

Southeast Bulloch and Liberty County are set for a 7:30 start at Fred Shaver Field.
