Statesboro angler Kasey Morris has reeled in the big bucks this month, winning three consecutive tournaments, and now he is hosting his own bass tournament.
The Southern Savannah River Bass Open Tournaments begin Saturday at Millstone Landing on the Savannah River in Hardeeville, S.C. Entry fee is $100, and there is a limit of two  per boat and seven fish.
Saturday’s event is the first of seven tournaments, and the tournament is from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Morris said.
First place is a guaranteed $2,000 prize, with a $20 prize for the biggest bass.
Morris knows all about big bass, because in the last three weeks, he has aced three tournaments, taking first place as well as the big bass prize in each one.
He and Brian Archer placed first in the Super Bass tournament at Stokes Bluff Landing in South Carolina; He and Kyle Murray teamed up for another first at the Cat Trail Classic and Morris paired with  Matthew Ward for first place in another Super Bass tournament.
The key to fishing in cold water temperatures is a special soft plastic worm and hook combination Morris     said he will keep to himself.
“It was an early morning bite on all three tournaments,” he said. “It’s real tough fishing in 28-degree weather.”
