Thomas Leonard “Tommy” Thompson, 77, of Portal, and husband of Barbara Ann Bishop Thompson, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2020, at his residence.
Born in Savannah, he was the son of Ander Felder Thompson and Sarah Amanda Herndon Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was a member of New Life Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
He was a union millwright who worked all over the country.
Mr. Thompson was very dedicated to Michael Guido and assisted him in his ministry and was a security guard at Georgia Southern University, a job for which he dearly loved.
Mr. Thompson also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by a son, Tracy Lane Thompson.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Barbara Ann Bishop Thompson of Portal; two sons, Tommy Lee Thompson and Terrell Lyle Thompson, both of Portal; a sister, Linda Rogers of Ellabell; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at New Life Baptist Church in Metter with Rusty Rushing officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1 o’clock until the funeral hour at the church on Tuesday.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all social-distancing guidelines will be in place and masks must be worn.
Interment will be held in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville and will be private.
