Mamie LaVant Wright, age 91, of Pembroke, Georgia, peacefully passed away on Friday, September 4, 2026, in Tamarac, Florida, following an extended illness.

A native of Bryan County, Georgia, Mrs. Wright was a member of Beautiful Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She resided in Miami, Florida, for many years, where she was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. After many years in Miami, she returned to her hometown of Pembroke, Georgia. During her time in Miami, she was employed by Mr. and Mrs. Kurent for 20 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lucius Wright; her daughter, Essie Black; and her son, Bobby White.

She left to cherish the memory of her only son, Dwight Anthony “Mustafa” LaVant of Tamarac, Florida; one daughter, Ethel White of Miami, Florida; as a daughter, Connie Turner McLeod of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Frances Hueston of Valdosta, Georgia; and Clara Braddock of Miami, Florida; and three goddaughters, Glenda Brown of Silver Spring, Maryland; Jeanette Henley of Marianna, Florida; and Verna Petterson of Miami, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will cherish the memories they shared with her.

The celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Beautiful Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2315 Beautiful Zion Church Road, Pembroke, GA 31321, with the Rev. O’Hara C. Black as eulogist. Interment will be held at the church cemetery.
