Eubie Lee Hendrix Crosby, age 91, of Savannah, Georgia, died August 19, 2026, at home.
Born July 12, 1935, in Bulloch County, Eubie Lee was the 11th of 11 children of the late Dock Harbor and Naomi Lee Hendrix. With more than 20 years between the oldest to the youngest child in the family, Eubie Lee was cared for by all her siblings, especially her oldest sister, Pearl.
Eubie Lee attended Georgia Teacher’s College and was very proud of the fact that she finished her teaching degree in three years. Many years later, she earned her master of arts degree in teaching from Georgia Southern College.
In 1956, Eubie Lee married the love of her life, Morris Crosby. She started teaching at Black Creek Elementary School in Pembroke, Georgia. She then taught at Thunderbolt Elementary School in Savannah, Georgia, and Fleming Elementary in Augusta, Georgia.
They welcomed their daughter, Leesa Naomi, in Augusta, in 1963. In 1966, they moved to Brunswick, Georgia, and Eubie Lee finished her teaching career at C.B. Greer Elementary School. She taught for 36 years, most of which were in second grade.
Morris and Eubie Lee were married for almost 38 years before his death in 1994. Eubie Lee continued to live in Brunswick for 55 years and then moved to Savannah to live with Leesa.
Eubie Lee belonged to Calvary Baptist Church in Brunswick. She considered it her ministry to visit the elderly and shut-ins and took a gift to them every month. She also had a card ministry and would send everyone in the church a card for their birthday.
Eubie Lee loved sewing, crocheting and ceramics. Every week she joined a group of friends, and they worked on their current ceramics’ projects together. Eubie Lee was known for her ceramic Christmas trees and always tried to make one for each household in her extended family.
She was a member of ADK, Tau chapter, for almost 57 years, and loved being a part of the Bulloch County Historical Society.
A sports fan her whole life, she was always ready to go to a Georgia Southern football game, a Braves game, and in her younger years, a car race with Morris. She would often attend her nieces' and nephews' ames. At home, she collected books galore and read them all.
As the matriarch of a large extended family, Eubie Lee was always ready to offer a listening ear, give advice, coordinate events and just be present with each and every family member.
Eubie Lee is preceded in death by her husband, Morris Crosby; her 10 brothers and sisters and their spouses and many of her dear friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Leesa Naomi Leverette; her granddaughter, Hannah Alyssa Saunders; Hannah’s husband, Mitchel; her great-grandsons, Luca Mitchel, Tatum Lee, and a baby girl due in January. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Polly Hendrix; 18 nieces and nephews and many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
