Douglas McArthur "Buddy" Sommers

    Rocky Ford — Douglas McArthur "Buddy" Sommers, 63, of Sylvania, died Saturday at his residence.
    The Screven County native was owner/operator of Sommers Logging over 30 years, was owner of Buddy's Used Parts and Salvage and Sommers Construction Company, a member of Rocky Ford Hunting Club and was of the Baptist faith. He served in the U. S. Army Reserves.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd J. Sommers and a
brother, L. J. "Spook" Sommers.
    Survivors include:  his wife, Gail Deal Sommers, Rocky Ford; a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas Rodney and Ruth Smith Sommers, Sylvania; his mother, Thelma Blackburn Sommers, Rocky Ford; sisters and brother-in-law, Deloris S. and Wilton Grooms, Newington, and Dorothy S. Parrish, Portal; a brother and sister-in-law, Cecil "Sam" and Lelia Sommers, Sylvania; grandchildren, Hunter Sommers and Emily Sommers, Sylvania; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be Tuesday at 110 a.m. at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rudine Becton officiating. Burial in the Douglas Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
    Active pallbearers: Daryl Miller, Tony Miller, Ivery Burton, Theotis Coney, Brad Martin, and Bill Strange.
    Honorary pallbearers: Charles E. Lee, Jimmy Murray, Lewis Grovenstein, Ernest Hancock, Gary Edenfield, Michael Krulic, Sam Dipolito, and Richard Bragg.
    Visitation: Monday, 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Roy Henry Johnson

    Portal — Mr. Roy Henry Johnson, age 65, died Saturday at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. The native and life long resident of Bulloch County served seven years in the Army National Guard. Mr. Johnson retired from Daniel Measurement, formerly Brooks Instrument Co. after 39 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, Claudine and Lewis E. Johnson, Sr. and a brother, Lewis E. Johnson, Jr. (Shug).
    Surviving are his wife, Ada Davis Johnson of Portal; three daughters and sons in law, Martha Johnson Brown and Bobby Brown, Deborah and David Sheffield and Sandra Johnson Mingle and Mark Mingle all of Portal; a son Bruce Johnson of Portal and a Godson, Stacey Beasley of Portal; seven grandchildren, Dana and Dustin Johnson, Nathan and Haley Smith, Madison Brown and Marcus and Curtis Mingle all of Portal; a great granddaughter, Makaila Johnson of Portal; a sister and brother in law, Ruby Lee and John  Harris of Statesboro; a brother and sister in law, Al and Betty Mauro of Springfield; a brother in law and sister in law, Pat and Dot Davis and several nieces and nephews, Dorothy Barnes, Joni Hulsey, Janie Hendrix, Vince and Joe Davis, Sylvia Culp and Tim Johnson.
    Visitation will be Monday from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Joiner- Anderson Funeral Home.
    Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the Chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Al Mauro officiating.
    Burial will be at the family cemetery on Motes Road in Portal.
    Pallbearers will be Tim Johnson, Danny Brown, Vince Davis, Freddie Tucker, Marcus Mingle and Johnny Brown.
    Honorary pallbearers will be retired and current employees of Brooks Instrument/ Brodie Meter Co. and the Vietnam Veteran Riders Group.
    The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, Ga. 30459.
