The Portal Panther football team picked up their first win of the season Aug. 28 with a 28-14 win over Bryan County and followed it up with a 21-14 win over Jenkins County this past Friday to improve to 2-1 on the season. Helping to lead the way in both games was junior Zeke Purcell, who had over 200 yards of offense and three touchdowns against Bryan County.

“Zeke had a great game last week,” said coach Jason McEachin. “He had 146 rushing yards and 62 receiving. One of his three touchdowns was a 90-yard run for a score on a trick play we put in for him. His role on the team is to be an explosive playmaker and he does a great job with that. He is a threat to score every time he touches it.”

“I feel like my role on the team is to do the job I was assigned to do with no problems,” Purcell said. “I think my biggest improvement is that I have gotten stronger, faster and have a better vision of the field.”
