Mr. William James “Billy” Brunson
STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mr. William James “Billy” Brunson passed away Thursday, January 24, 2019, at Azalea Health and Rehabilitation in Metter. He was 79 years old.
    Billy was a native of Bulloch County and a graduate of Statesboro High School and Georgia Southern University. He was active in the Boy Scout program for many years. Billy was a retired teacher and later worked for Rockwell Manufacturing Company, Cooper Wiss. He later retired from Georgia Southern University.
    He enjoyed camping and fishing with his wife and playing with their dogs, Ajay and Sam.
    Billy was a peaceful and quiet man who loved people and enjoyed hearing family stories of the past. His smile was always present and he shared it with everyone.
    He and his wife were members of the Statesboro First Baptist Church, where they sang in the choir every Sunday for many years.
    Billy was preceded in death by his loving wife, Merrye Jane Brunson; who passed away in May of 2018; and his parents, James R. and Lois T. Brunson.
    Billy is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Virgil Harville of Statesboro, and her children, Brett and Diane Allen, Gwen Allen and Bill, Amy A. Anderson and Mark and Allison Allen, all of Statesboro; his grand nieces and nephews, Amanda Allen, Shane Allen (Lauren), Colby Anderson, Hannah Bolton (Josh), Harley Anderson, Brooke Lanier Brown (Jo), Ashton Lanier and Hunter Lanier. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Debbie Goldman (Jay) and Jeannie Bradford (Harry).
    The family will receive visitors on Sunday from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
    The service will follow the visitation with Dr. H. William Perry officiating. A private graveside service and burial will be held.
    The family would like to thank the staff of Azalea Health and Rehabilitation for their excellent care of Billy for the past few years. He enjoyed their friendship.
    The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Statesboro First Baptist Choir Fund, 108 North Main Street, Statesboro, Georgia 30458; or the charity of the donor’s choice.
