STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mr. George E. “Buster” Pelote Sr., age 85, died on Monday, May 14, 2018, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice inpatient facility. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a 1950 graduate of Marvin Pittman High School.
Mr. Buster was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean War.
He was retired after 44 years as a lineman for Statesboro Telephone/Frontier Communications.
Mr. Buster enjoyed the outdoors, working in his garden and fishing on the Ogeechee River.
He was a former member of the Statesboro Jaycees and the Mason Ogeechee Lodge #213.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Andrew Pelote and Lillie Mae Herrington Pelote; one brother, Hamp Pelote; and four sisters, Ouida Morrison, Mildred Parrish, Raye Bowman and Sadie Smith.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Tibbie Rucker Pelote of Statesboro; a son, George Pelote Jr. of Statesboro; a sister, Betty (Allen) Gerrald of Savannah; four brothers-in-law, Harold Bowman, Wilbur Smith of Statesboro, Charles Rucker of Statesboro; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George (Dot) Stewart of Statesboro; two sisters-in-law, Mary Rucker of Hazlehurst and Omie Hagan of Statesboro; and his caregiver, Roxann Watson.
A visitation will be held on Thursday from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Ricky Allen officiating. Interment will be in Eastside Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Skeebo Moore, Madison Durden, Arnold Donaldson, Bill Akins and James Newsome.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Franklin, Gerald Edendfield, Paul Moore, Randy Nesmith, and Bob Dinello and the employees of Frontier Telephone Company.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459; or to the First Baptist Church of Statesboro Building Fund, 108 North Main Street, Statesboro, GA 30458.
