A Tennessee man suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh Wednesday when his firearm discharged as he drove near the intersection of Lanier Drive and Chandler Road.
Statesboro Police were called to East Georgia Regional Medical Center to speak with Marquel Depaul Stewart, 24, Ashleyhunt Lane, Memphis, who said he was driving when his firearm accidentally discharged.
The bullet struck Stewart in the middle of his right thigh, said Statesboro Police reports.
The accidental wound took place around 9 p.m. Wednesday, reports stated.
Members of the Statesboro Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division looked into the incident and ruled it accidental, said Capt. Scott Brunson.
Stewart was not charged, as he was carrying the firearm legally, he said.
