Statesboro Police officers issued 28 citations for underage possession of alcohol last weekend, said Statesboro Police Chief Stan York. Five of these citations were issued at Rum Runners in University Plaza after officers conducted an alcohol compliance check, he said. "Other locations licensed to sell alcohol were also checked but no violations were found." The remaining 23 citations were for people checked in parking lots and apartment complexes, he said. One citation was also issued for furnishing alcohol to underage persons when police checked a party where kegs of beer were being consumed, he said. One party guest was found to be under 21, and was cited for underage possession of alcohol, and t he person who rented the keg was cited for furnishing the beverage to the underage person. "The Statesboro Police Department will continue to enforce underage possession of alcohol violations and open container violations on a continuing basis," York said. "Checks will also be scheduled to insure that locations licensed to sell alcohol are not selling alcohol to underage patrons."
