Following a fire early Sunday morning in the school’s gymnasium area, Statesboro High School will open Monday on a normal schedule.

According to an email from Hayley Greene, director of Public Relations for Bulloch County School, at approximately 1:10 a.m. Sunday morning, Bulloch County 911 dispatched the Statesboro Fire Department to Statesboro High due to a fire alarm.

“Bulloch County Schools is thankful for the quick response of the Statesboro Fire Department,” Greene said in the email.

The email stated that school principal Keith Wright believed “the fire occurred and was contained in the main gymnasium’s concession stand on the corner of the building’s main hallway and cafeteria.”

The school building’s fire safety system activated to help extinguish the fire.

Greene stated school and district staff will continue to address the issue Sunday in order to be ready for students Monday morning.

No other information was released on the incident nor about any cause of the fire.
