A man walked into Queensborough National Bank Friday afternoon, aimed a handgun wrapped in a plastic bag at a teller, and demanded cash, said Statesboro Police Det. Sgt. James Winskey.
No one was injured in the armed robbery.
A black male, standing around 6 ", wearing a gray hoodie, white T-shirt, black pants and shoes as well as a wig, entered the South Zetterower Avenue bank around 4:17 p.m., and stood a distance away from the counter as he aimed what police believe was a "large hand gun" wrapped in a yellow plastic grocery-type bag.
The man's wig was dreadlock style, and he had the hood of his sweatshirt over his head. He also had a bag on his back with straps around his shoulders.
He uttered some profanity and demanded "give me the money," Winskey said. After the teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled on foot out the back door.
Police responded within a few minutes and saturated the area, seeking the offender. One man was taken into custody and brought to the bank drive-through window so bank employees could identify whether he was the suspect, but he was not the armed robbery suspect, said Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner.
However, that suspect, not yet identified, was arrested on unrelated drug charges, he said.
"Anyone with information concerning this robbery is asked to contact the Statesboro Police Department at 912-764-9911 or the Statesboro Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigations at 912-764-6311,"Winskey said
