The Georgia Recreation and Parks Association First District held its annual awards banquet last week in Statesboro. Among those in attendance receiving awards was the Statesboro-Bulloch County Parks and Recreation Department and its staff.
Several staff members received service awards for their service and dedication to the department. Among those were: Steve Brown, 10 years; Dadrian Cosby, 10 years; Broni Gainous, 10 years; Cannon Petitjean, 10 years; Ronald Smith, 15 years; Mitch Stafford, 15 years; and Sherrie Zeigler, 25 years.
The department was awarded the Sportsmanship of the Year Award for Class A/B departments.
New to the awards listing this year was the Facilities and Grounds Award, which was awarded to Bill Smith, the department’s aquatic maintenance supervisor. Smith has been with the local Parks and Recreation Department and Splash in the Boro for more than three years.
Chris Atkinson, still considered a “rookie” on the department’s team, was awarded the Leadership Award. This award is given to a staff member who has continually gone “above and beyond” in creating and supervising their respective programs. Atkinson supervises soccer, basketball and golf.
The department was also named the First District Agency of the Year for agencies that serve a population of 50,001 to 80,000 people.
“Congratulations to Statesboro-Bulloch Parks and Recreation. SBCPRD is a true example of a public service organization that is committed to providing the best service possible to its community,” said GRPA First District Commissioner Randy Spivey.
