A Nevils man was killed Tuesday evening when his car was struck by a train in Screven County's Dover community.
Phillip Ray Allison Jr., 32, Nevils, was found dead at the scene, said State Patrol Post 21 Trooper First Class Bruce Rowell.
Just before 7 p.m. Tuesday, Allison was driving on Dover Road, traveling south, when he pulled into the path of a Norfolk-Southern train operated by Steven Michael Clellen, 53, he said. It was unclear whether Allison stopped before entering the train's path,  but "he failed to yield to the train," he said.
The train struck Allison's 2003 Toyota Camry in the side, he said.
After troopers responded to the scene, the Screven County coroner was also called to investigate, he said.
There were no other passengers in Allison's vehicle, Rowell said. The train driver was not injured.
No charges were filed in the accident.
Rowell did not say whether Allison was under the influence of alcohol, but said alcohol was found at the scene of the accident. Blood tests are pending, he said.
Dover Road is just off U.S. 301 North, just inside the Screven County line, near the Ogeechee River. Norfolk-Southern operates a station near the Dover community.
