Dentist thanks all who took part in Dentistry from the Heart

Editor:
I would like to offer my genuine thanks to all those that helped us create the second annual “Dentistry from the Heart” event day, Dec. 12. Dentistry from the Heart is a worldwide nonprofit organization dedicated to providing dental care at no charge to those in need.
We were able to provide 87 local citizens with free dentistry, to include emergency and preventive care, in an effort to make Christmas more comfortable for them.
I’d like to start by thanking my wonderful staff that donated their services, beginning their day at
7 a.m. and working tirelessly until 5:30 p.m. They were responsible for most of the pre-event planning and implementation of this compassionate program.
Additionally, East Georgia Center for Oral and Facial Surgery was invaluable in their support, as they saw 50 patients with surgical needs.
We had volunteers from Georgia Southern University, dental assisting students from Ogeechee Technical College and dental hygiene students from Southeastern Technical College in Vidalia. Subway was so kind as to provide food for the workers. We were also provided support supplies from Patterson Dental Company and Lewis-Goetz Company.
Together, our two offices have provided approximately $38,226 of support for our residents in the last two years. We hope to continue to make this an annual event as a way of giving back to a community that has been so good to us.
Richard F. Marz, D.D.S.
