Editor:

This past Tuesday marked the culmination of a remarkable journey that I embarked upon four months ago when I announced that I was running for mayor of Statesboro.

I could not have imagined at the time the support the race would garner, the amount of effort on the part of so many that would be put forth, or the shear interest that the race would generate, but I feel very blessed to have been a part of what has now proven to be an historic event for our community.

There were many that worked tirelessly on my behalf and I am humbled and grateful for their support. I would like to thank one person in particular however, Lisa Rowe Lee, who served as my campaign manager never doubting during the entirety of the campaign that I could be elected.

Lee and I are childhood friends who played every sport offered by the Statesboro Recreation Department growing up, attended Statesboro High School together, and have remained very close friends ever since.

Even though she hasn't lived in the city for several years now residing in the county with her family, Lee loves Statesboro as much as anyone I have ever known. I was truly blessed to have her by my side during the campaign and will remain eternally grateful for all that she has done on my behalf.

I would be remiss if I did not thank my employers at the Statesboro Herald and the Bulloch County Board of Education for their support and understanding, my family for their love and patience, my friends and supporters for their encouragement, prayers, and contributions and Danny Jones for serving as treasurer of my campaign and trusted advisor.

I pledge to work on the issues that I brought to the forefront during the campaign including South Main Street/downtown revitalization and a reduction of crime throughout the city and around the campus of Georgia Southern. And, I pledge to be very accessible to you, the citizens of Statesboro and Bulloch County.

Beginning this January, I no longer will serve as the business editor of the Statesboro Herald ending a 10-year relationship as their employee, but will continue to contribute to the Tuesday business section as a freelance writer.

I look forward to my new role as mayor, and am honored by the trust that has been placed in me by the citizens of our community. Be assured, it is not a trust that I will bear lightly. Again, I thank you.

Jan Johnston Moore
Mayor-elect
City of Statesboro
