Girl Scout Troop 30036 of Statesboro is giving back to the community in April after a successful Girl Scout Cookie season.
Troop Leader Keena Cone said her troop raised $33,000 through cookie sales and will now give back through a series community service projects this month.
“Our main focus is serving our community and giving back,” Cone said.
She said the troop is working with Action Pact Inc., Captain’s Cupboard and Eagle Essential Food Pantries and Habitat Bulloch County.
Action Pact Inc. is an adult day center located on Granade St. On Thursday, April 10, scouts from 20036 will stop by the center to donate antibacterial wipes, as well as cookies the troop has left over from cookie sales. Cone said that they plan to drop off the cookies to enjoy as a snack after their daily lunches.
On the same day, the scouts will drop off a donation at Captain’s Cupboard and Eagle Essentials Food Pantry on Southern Dr. The pantry was created by Georgia Southern University and opened on the Statesboro campus in 2020 with the mission of providing free resources to students, such as snack items, non-perishables, household items and toiletries. Troop 30036 will donate canned goods, as well as laundry supplies and personal hygiene products to help Georgia Southern students in need.
Lastly, the scouts will deliver refreshments and snacks to workers of Habitat for Humanity Bulloch County on Saturday, April 26 at a home that is under construction.
Since Cone’s Girl Scouts are too young to help assist in building the house, the troop plans to keep workers hydrated and full as they build a home within the community.
