The community is invited today to help “Freedom” the American bald eagle practice for his flight at Georgia Southern University’s spring graduation ceremony.
Steve Hein, director of Georgia Southern’s Center for Wildlife Education, has been flying Freedom at Paulson Stadium for the past few weeks. Hein is preparing Freedom to fly at the Spring commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 9. Typically, about 20,000 people attend Spring graduation at Paulson Stadium.
To simulate as closely as possible the environment of graduation day, everyone is invited to Freedom’s practice flight at the stadium today at 5:15 p.m. People are asked to meet in front of the Bishop Building at Paulson and participate in a portion of Freedom’s training. The training is expected to take about 30 minutes.
