Police arrested three and are seeking a fourth suspect in an interrupted burglary Sunday where a silent alarm foiled the suspect's plans and alerted law enforcement.
William Allen Bazemore Sr., 40, Savannah, and William Allen Bazemore Jr., Palm Bay, Fla., were arrested along with a 15-year-old male Sunday after Statesboro Police officers caught them in the act taking spools of aluminum and copper wire from Eagle Wholesale, said Capt. L. C. Williams, commander of the department's criminal investigations division.
A fourth suspect, identified as Orlando Lamarr Spellman, 35, Savannah, was not apprehended, and police ask anyone with information about Spellman to contact the Statesboro Police Department, he said.
Several Statesboro Police officers, including a K-9 officer, responded to a silent alarm at Eagle Wholesale on Northside Drive West around 4 a.m. Sunday, he said. As they approached the business, they saw " a suspicious vehicle and tow trailer backed up to ... the perimeter fence," he said.
Officers surrounded the area while others investigated the situation, he said. When discovered, all four suspects fled. Officers gave chase and apprehended Bazemore Sr. Bazemore Jr. and the juvenile, but Spellman escaped, Williams said.
Statesboro Police Det. Terry Briley was called to the scene to investigate and collected evidence as well as witness statements, he said. His investigations revealed the suspects had taken about $3,000 worth of copper and aluminum wire spools, as well as items taken from another business.
Briley discovered the suspects had also broken into Woody's Transmissions on Northside Drive East and took over $4,000 worth of transmission parts, he said.
Bazemore Sr. and Bazemore Jr. were each charged with two counts of felony theft by taking, two counts of possession of tools for the commission of a crime, two counts of criminal trespass and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, he said. Spellman also faces these charges.
The juvenile was charged with two counts of felony theft by taking, two counts of possession of tools for the commission of a crime, two counts of criminal trespass and one count of obstruction.
All items taken by the suspects were returned to the owners, he said.
The suspects were taken to the Bulloch County Jail, with the exception of the juvenile, who was taken to Claxton Regional Youth Detention Center, Williams said. A jail spokesman said Tuesday that Bazemore Jr. has been released on a $10,000 bond, but Bazemore Sr. was still in custody. He also has a $10,000 bond.
Spellman was entered into the Georgia Criminal Information Center as a wanted person, he said.
According to the Georgia Department of Corrections Internet web site (www.dcor.state.ga.us), Spellman served six years of a 10-year sentence for burglary from June 1998 to June 2004. The Chatham County charges also included obstruction and criminal trespass for crimes occurring in 1997. Spellman is also known as Orlando Lamar Black, according to information from the web site.
