Attention artists, actors and performers of all ages! It is time to audition for the Averitt Center's Fall Productions.
Auditions for this year's variety show - "Emma's Holiday Follies" - will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.
This Vaudeville-style variety show, fast becoming an annual tradition in Statesboro, will be directed by William James choral teacher, Lisa Muldrew, and choreographed by Helen Redding, from the Helen Redding School of Dance. There will be three performances Decemeber 14 - 16, with one show nearly sold out already.
Auditions are open to individuals of all ages, talents and musical genre - though should be holiday oriented. Choir, ensembles and individual acts are welcome. A piano and CD player will be available for vocalists. Choirs and ensembles may bring pre-recorded submissions. Dancers should wear appropriate attire.
Keeping with the holiday spirit, auditions for "The Nutcracker " and "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer" will be held the next two Sundays - August 19th and 26th - and will be run by Shay Morgan, director of the Statesboro Youth Ballet. Auditions for both shows will take place at the same time, with parts for each show determined from the one audition.
Tim Chapman, executive director of the Averitt Center, says, "These classics are some of the best way to introduce children to the ballet."
Children ages 3-5, plus kindergartners and first graders will audition from 1:15 p.m. - 2 p.m. Second through fifth graders will audition from 2 p.m. through 3:15 p.m. Children sixth grade and up will audition from 3:15 p.m. until 4 p.m. Times are the same for both Sundays and parents may elect to come either day. There is a $5 audition fee.
For those interested in serious drama, there are two upcoming opportunities.
From 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 5 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, auditions for "The Legend of Erk Russell" will be held. This will be a unique opportunity for actors to not only showcase their skills, but also be involved in the actual creation of the play. Actors should come prepared with a short write-up about Erk Russell — either a personal experience or a story they've heard.

Lastly, Averitt STARS will present "Blessed Assurance," a drama about the Freedom Summer of 1964 and a small-town waitress who demands her right to register to vote. Auditions will be held Monday, August 27th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with call back Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The play will be directed by Georgia Southern theatre professor, Mical Whitaker, and was written by South Carolina resident and Mississippi native, Laddy Sartin.
