The Bulloch Academy Gator football team finished the regular season 9-1 and is currently ranked No. 2 in the state in GIAA Class 4-A. The Gators wrapped up the regular season Friday, routing Fredrica, 52-0, to win another region title.

The senior heavy team is led once again by quarterback Sam Hubbard who is among the team leaders in rushing yards and touchdowns. Head coach Aaron Phillips has seen Hubbard’s growth in his four years at BA and is happy to have him for his final season.

“Sam is like having another coach on the field,” Phillips said. “His progression thus far for us is he's able to check everything at the line of scrimmage now, and that's what you hope with a quarterback in your system.

“He's just a competitor. I mean that's what makes him a great pitcher is he's kind of a bulldog. He doesn't mind doing the little things. He's not the guy that's going to run out of bounds. He's the guy that kind of wants to hit you and wants to lower his shoulder and deliver a hit and get a couple extra yards.”

“I think we've had a good season so far,” Hubbard said. “Offensively, compared to last year, we're definitely a lot better. We're older than last year and have really improved on the offensive line. I think I've definitely gotten better, especially in the run game. I'm not going to look ahead too early. The goal is to finish in the state championship but we have to take it one game at a time.”
