Local Roundup: SEB girls top Savannah

    BROOKLET — The Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets continued their winning ways on Tuesday with a 50-38 region win over Savannah High at home.
    SEB (10-3, 6-1 Region 1-AAA) was led by Jasmine Roberts and Philicia Batton, who each netted 17 points for the Yellow Jackets.
    Southeast Bulloch hits the road on Friday to take on Beach at 6 p.m.

Lady Tigers keep rolling
    CLAXTON — Savannah Country Day was no match for the Claxton Lady Tigers on Tuesday as Claxton rolled to a 51-27 win at home.
    Claxton (11-2, 2-0 Region 3A-A) was led by Devonna Brewton, who scored 17 points and added five assists. The Tigers held Country Day to only 10 first-half points.
    Keri Brown pulled down 14 rebounds and scored 11 points, and Nyeisha Kirkland added 10 points.
    Claxton faces Calvary Day on the road on Friday.

Claxton pulls away late
    CLAXTON — The Claxton Tigers (6-5, 2-0 Region 3A-A) made 14 fourth-quarter free throws and held off visiting Savannah Country Day 62-50 on Friday.

Triple-double earns Knight SoCon honor
    SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Georgia Southern women’s basketball junior Anna Claire Knight has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for Jan. 7, the league announced Tuesday.
    Knight recorded the first triple-double in Georgia Southern women’s basketball history with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a 64-61 come-from-behind win at Samford on Monday. It was the 11th triple-double in the country this season and the first in the Southern Conference since Davidson’s Sophia Aleksandravicius notched 20 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocked shots against Furman Feb. 16, 2013, in Belk Arena.
