ALBANY — Southeast Bulloch's furious second-half comeback attempt fell short as the Yellow Jackets fell 63-57 on Friday at the U-Save-It Classic against Class AAAAAA foe Lee County.
The Yellow Jackets (4-6) battled back from a 20-point halftime deficit, but couldn't get all the way back to take the lead.
Sheldon Hendrix led SEB with 14 points and Lamont Ballard added 13.
The Jackets wrap up play at the tournament on Monday at 1 p.m. against Monroe.
Bryan beats buzzer, Claxton
PEMBROKE — Bryan County scored with one second remaining and edged Claxton 68-66 on Saturday.
Claxton's Cornelious Taylor drilled a 3-pointer to tie the game with 11 seconds remaining.
Taylor led Claxton (6-3, 3-0 Region 3A-A) with 25 points. Kyle Vliet added 14.
Lady Tigers top Bryan County
PEMBROKE — The Claxton Lady Tigers cruised to a 52-32 win on Saturday at Bryan County.
The Tigers (8-2, 2-1 Region 3A-A) were led by Ikeria Brown's 21 points.
Breyonna Griggs recorded a double-double, scoring 14 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
Both the Lady Tigers and the boys team will be off for the rest of the calendar year.
Claxton is back in action at home on Jan. 2 against Montgomery County.
WJMS wins big at home tourney
The William James Middle School A and B teams were both victorious on Saturday at home in the WJMS Holiday Classic.
The A team defeated Bulloch Academy 29-15 and the B team topped Portal 49-12.
Langston Chapel was also victorious in the first round.
Play resumes on Monday at 10 a.m., as the WJMS B team faces Screven County.
Portal plays Southeast Bulloch at 11 a.m., followed by WJMS A versus Claxton at noon and Langston Chapel versus Collins at 1 p.m.
