Local Roundup: SEB, BA playoff games postponed

    Southeast Bulloch and Bulloch Academy have rescheduled their softaball tournament doubleheaders from today until Thursday.
    Southeast Bulloch (18-6-2), The No. 2 seed out of GHSA Region 3-AA, will host Monticello (16-12-1), the No. 3 seed out of Region 4-AA, Thursday at 4 p.m. for a doubleheader.
    If needed, the series will conclude Friday in Brooklet.
    The Bulloch Academy softball team has rescheduled its GISA second round playoff series against Stratford Academy for Thursday.
    Originally scheduled for this afternoon, persistent rains forced the games back two days.
    The best-of-three series will be played in its entirety Thursday beginning at 11 a.m.
    The winner of Thursday's series will advance to the state Final Four set to begin Saturday in Dublin.

Men's hoops walkon tryouts at GSU
    Georgia Southern students wishing to tryout for a spot on the Georgia Southern Men’s Basketball team will get their opportunity on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m. Tryouts will be held on the main floor of the Hanner Fieldhouse.
    Each person wishing to try out must be a current, full-time Georgia Southern student and have proof of insurance (Health Insurance through the University will not suffice because it does not cover Athletic Injury) and a physical within the last six months. Students will also need to provide a current class schedule and transcript.

Eagles open play Valdosta
    Valdosta — Three members of the Georgia Southern golf team competed at the 36-hole Thomas University Fall Invite this past week, including sophomore Will Evans who finished at 2-under par (70+72=142) to tie for third place and freshman Zach Hartman, who shot even par to tie for 12th place. Sophomore Drew Guffey finished his two rounds at 12 over par (73+83=156) to tie for 55th place.
    The Eagles competed as individuals in the non-team event, played at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta. The par 72 course played at 6,662 yards.
    The Eagles return to action next Monday, Oct. 17 at the Auto Trader Collegiate Classic. The two-day, 54-hole event will be hosted by Georgia State University at the Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth, Ga.

Lady Eagles sweep Davidson
    Behind an 11-kill performance by Enjoli Johnson the Georgia Southern Volleyball team (12-10, 4-2) rebounded from their first home loss since August 26th with a 3-0 victory over Davidson Tuesday night. The victory wrapped up a three-game homestand which saw the return of the Eagles to Hanner Fieldhouse's main gym on Saturday.

N.C. State edges Eagles
    RALEIGH, N.C. — Georgia Southern opened strong, but a second half shooting barrage by NC State gave the Pack a 1-0 win on cool, wet Tuesday evening at Dail Stadium. The loss drops the Eagles to 7-5-1 overall, but does not affect Georgia Southern’s SoCon leading 3-1-0 conference record. NC State moves to 5-6-2.
    The Eagles took the fight to the Wolfpack in the early minutes, taking control of the early run of play. Georgia Southern led NC State, 4-2 in shots in the opening period and 3-1 in shots on goal.
    The tide, however, turned in the second half as NC State pushed forward logged nine shots in the first 25 minutes.
